Research is at the core of the Fly Casting Institute. The FCI was founded as a result of the work done by Dr. McCue in preparation for his paper, "Upper Extremity Pain in Fly-Casters" (Wilderness and Environmental Medicine, Fall 2004). The Institute is continually working to futher the understanding of the biomechanics and medical issues surrounding fly casting.
